Orchid is the UK charity dedicated to fighting male cancers by funding research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of prostate and testicular cancer as well as promoting awareness and improving education about these often overlooked diseases.

• Prostate cancer will affect 1 in 11 men in the UK this year and causes the death of one man every hour.
• Testicular cancer is the biggest cancer risk for men between the ages of 15 and 45 and incidence of the disease is increasing.

Orchid funded research aims to understand the causes of prostate and testicular cancer, identify new diagnostic methods, trial new drug therapies, and improve surgical treatment.

The idea for the site began in 2003, when my husband was posted to Iraq at the beginning of the war. I began to look for a support site that would understand what it was like to have someone you love away, someone that would be able to offer support and a sympathetic ear from people who had been in the same situation. The aim of Squaddie Wives is to help and support dependants in every situation and to provide as much help and information as they may need. Squaddie Wives are currently raising money for SSAFA.

The White Ensign Association formed in 1958 with Admiralty Board endorsement is a registered charity. The activities of the Association are supervised by a Council of Management, representing a distinguished body drawn from the City of London, Commerce, Industry and the Royal Navy.

Its functions are to provide independent, free and unbiased help on all matters of personal finance including investment and financial planning for resettlement. Also to give assistance on all matters of civilian employment including job search.

This is available to all serving and retired officers, men and women of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, QARNNS or any of the Naval Services and their respective Reserves. It is also available to dependants of natural beneficiaries.

St Dunstan’s is a national charity that supports and assists ex-Service personnel who have lost their sight due to war, age, accident or illness. In 2005 the charity celebrated 90 years of service and has assisted more than 7,000 men and women come to terms with their disability.

People with an ex-services background who have sight difficulties can apply to the charity to become a ‘St Dunstaner’. Once their application is successful, the specialist training and support we offer helps them regain their independence and optimism. We can help with all manner of things from teaching new skills, sorting out housing issues, helping with benefit claims and providing a thriving sporting and social network.
